Overview
The ascent through Desierto de los Leones builds gradually: shaded mountain paths, sustained climbing and the stone hermitage of Cerro San Miguel above the forest. Clear weather can open views toward the mountains around Mexico City.
The appeal is a full forest-to-summit day rather than a quick viewpoint stop. Distance, altitude and the long descent deserve preparation even when a published route is labeled beginner.
