Every hike
- Broken-in footwear with appropriate grip; layers, weather protection, sun protection and a daypack.
- Water and food matched to effort and resupply arrangements; personal medication as advised by your clinician.
- A headlamp and spare power when early starts, darkness or delays are possible; keep essentials accessible.
High altitude and technical terrain
Cold, wind, snow, ice and glacier travel can require specialized footwear, insulation, helmet, crampons, ice axe, harness and rope systems. Technical equipment requires training, compatibility checks and appropriate supervision. Confirm the final list, who supplies each item and any rental arrangements in writing; nothing is automatically included.
Fitness and overnight routes
Build sustained uphill and downhill endurance, balance and strength gradually. Practice with the pack and footwear you will use. No running distance or training benchmark establishes mountain readiness. Overnight routes need agreed shelter, sleeping equipment, food, water and carrying arrangements. Review your route’s packing guidance with the team.
